I'm wanting to create my own level which uses the library.wad files but have it co-exists alongside The Lost Library level.

I've copied and renamed the wad files (all 11 of them) and I've copied the details for The Lost Library level in script.txt and placed it at the end of the file and changed the wad file for the game to look for to the name of the renamed wad that I duplicated.

I then altered the level name so that it would be different to the others that were there. I read in the manual that I had to put this name into the English.txt file.

quote:

Editing the English.txt file
Open the English.txt file and type in the new name EXACTLY the same as it is written in the script.txt file on or just beneath the name you are changing. You can’t change the order of text in this file. (The names are found in the “Generic Strings” section.)

I've put my new level name after 'The Lost Library' - I've put it after 'New City' - I've even put it at the end of the level names that are in the English.txt file (and there's a **** of a lot more level names in there than actually came with the level editor itself). I've even tried putting it right at the end of the section before the {PSX strings bit but all that happens when I run script.exe on script.txt and then start the game is the menu texts are complete jibberish.

To make sure that the level was there and that it was accessible I took the library.prj and output the wad to my new TOM file and converted that into the relevant tr4 file and hey presto the level loaded in so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the layout of script.txt so can someone tell me what I need to do to English.txt so that everything appears as it should as I'm getting a little p$"$£d off with this at the moment.

(There's a lot of ways that Core/Eidos could have released the editor/game that would have made the whole process of creating new levels based on the same wad files but that's another rant and I'm in the wrong mood to talk objectively about it).

Hope someone out there will be able to help.

Go back to the original English.txt file. Don't make any changes in the text other than what you need to make...i.e., don't delete any lines of text. Type your new level name over the one you are changing, or, if that level name is being used, then type over one of the many names that aren't being used. Don't add any lines of text, only type over existing ones. For some reason, it is very touchy, but will work fine if you follow the rules! Good luck!
